A Stanford University study found that older runners’ knees are no less healthy than those of people who don’t run. Although road running is much safer than playing contact sports its not completely risk-free…
Women are 4-6 times more likely to suffer from a serious knee injury from running than men! This is due to the fact that women tend to have an imbalance in the strength ratio between their quadriceps and hamstrings, which in turn increases the risk of ACL injuries.
This is the reason why two total body strength workouts are recommend at least twice per week in addition to regular running to build up the muscles that support your knees. Not only will this enhance your running proficiency it will also reduce your risk of injury.
